چکیده

We propose a speech-operated cursor that is easy to move to any desired position. Speech-recognition systems are useful for people with physical disabilities, because such systems allow them to manipulate a computer using voice only. However, using traditional speech-recognition systems it is difficult to move the cursor to a desired position. To make it easier to specify the desired position, our system displays multiple aligned ghost cursors, which are user-friendly. Users can easily specify a one-dimensional coordinate by looking at the aligned ghost cursor. We examined the practicality of this technique.

Input techniques that dynamically change their cursor activation area: A comparison of bubble and cell cursors

Efficient pointing is crucial to graphical user interfaces, and input techniques that dynamically change their activation area may yield improvements over point cursors by making objects selectable at a distance. Input techniques that dynamically change their activation area include the bubble cursor, whose activation area always contains the closest object, and two variants of cell cursors, wh...

The Effect of Orientation-neutral Cursors on Movement

Very little research exists on the topic of computer cursor design and utilization. Since this is an important area in successful and efficient user interaction with graphical user interfaces, additional study is necessary. To investigate the impact of cursors with no implicit directional cues (orientation-neutral cursors) on movement time, positioning performance, and stimulus-response compati...

Effects of Cursor Orientation and Required Precision on Positioning Movements on Computer Screens

Arrowhead cursors used within graphic–user interfaces include implicit directional cues that may not be compatible with desired axis of motion. In addition, arrowhead cursors may not afford the best cues for location, and such effects may be exacerbated when there is a greater need for precise cursor placement. To address the impact of the cursor’s orientation on its positioning, 12 participant...

Simultaneous Processing of Information on Multiple Errors in Visuomotor Learning

The proper association between planned and executed movements is crucial for motor learning because the discrepancies between them drive such learning. Our study explored how this association was determined when a single action caused the movements of multiple visual objects. Participants reached toward a target by moving a cursor, which represented the right hand's position. Once every five to...

Cursors for 3D Pointing

We present a study of cursors for 3D pointing/selection interfaces. We compared a stereoand mono-rendered (one-eyed) cursor used with two mouse-based and two remote pointing techniques. This comparison was performed in a 3D Fitts’ law pointing experiment with varying target depths. Results indicate that the oneeyed cursor is beneficial only for some pointing techniques. While the mouse-based te...
